Ah Managed DirectX, well XNA is more of what MDX2.0 was going to be, but that was absorbed into XNA to create a single great product rather than 2 okaay products. I guess the MDX engine would be dead because Mike at the very least has moved onto its successor XNA, so why not move on as well. Remember that if you are fine with sacrificing Xbox360 capability, you can use XNA just like you did MDX, creating the device yourself etc. Smiley

But otherwise I think most of us have moved on to XNA.

DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 are C++ technologies. Managed DirectX (MDX) is the C# implementation of DX9, and XNA, is the C# implementation of DX9/XDK.
MDX was limited because it was a .Net 1.1 technology, and didnt have the latest DX9 has, since that was/is updated frequently. MDX2.0 was supposed to update the managed implementation of DX9, but it was scrapped in favour of XNA.
DirectX9 is not old yet, most games will still be written in DX9 for a while to come, due to the requirements of DX10 like Vista and a new Graphics Card.

DirectX is not a single thing, it has been through 9 (now 10) different Major versions, and new versions will continue to be released as graphics, audio etc technology advances. Basically it will never go away unless Microsoft ditches it for something else, Microsoft somehow dissapears (but then it might be picked up by someone else), or game technology completely stagnates.

If I ever get entirely too rich all of the sudden I'll probably sit down and do some conversion of the XNA engine to MDX 9 as well to fill out the tutorials in that side more, although they took quite a different turn than those ones did.

Sooner or later we will get a DX 9.0 c++ and DX 10 c++ version as well, but for now it's a bit too much.
